McNally Strumstick. $100.
The McNally Strumstick
has the same tuning and fretboard as a
mountain dulcimer, AKA a "lap dulcimer"—but it is set up so that
it doesn't have to be played on one's lap: you can stand up, put a strap on it,
and strum it like a guitar.
It's a no-frills instrument that is easy to learn to play. It is tuned DAD, and the diatonic fretboard means you can play all the notes in the key of D, but you're limited if you try to play in other keys.
This is an older Strumestick that isn't as fancy as the current models. Looks like it has a flat spruce top, clear maple back, and rosewood fretboard. Hard to tell about the neck: it could be mahogany, padouk, or more rosewood.
It's in good shape and could be a lot of fun for the right player. Completely acoustic (no pickup); comes with a strap and a cloth bag. See more photos, call 425/772-0231, or for more information. $100 plus shipping. 48-hour approval offered.
