Now retired, operated Oldtown Mandolins in Lakewood, Ohio. Most of his electric mandolins are based on the Gibson EM-200 Electric Florentine. They feature a curly maple arched top, mahogany body, and curly maple neck. The peghead is inlaid with white mother-of-pearl. The axes pictured here feature active EMG pickups; Doug also used Strat-style single-coil pickups. The blue axe below at right is the signature model Doug built for Ohio musician Jag Yggdrasil.
     Above right is Doug's Les Paul–style 8-string—a bit of a departure from his standard design. He made two of these.
