The Dean Markley company is known for strings as well as pickups. This contact piezo pickup attaches to the surface of an instrument with putty. I used one of these on my viola in high school and found that it would come unattached from the putty unless I wedged it underneath the fingerboard, which probably wasn't the best place for a pickup. Perhaps the putty has been improved since then.
