Paul Bigsby Bigsby built Merle Travis' solidbody electric guitar, as well as a 5-string solidbody electric mandolin for Tiny Moore—arguably the first one ever built. The instrument pictured, made for Grady Martin in 1952, offered the best of both worlds.
